Sam Chan, Ph.D.

District Chief (retired)
Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health

This Suicide Prevention Web site is a joint effort between the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH) and the Los Angeles County Office of Education’s (LACOE) Center for Distance and Online Learning (CDOL.) The goal is to provide information and materials on suicide prevention to the 80 school districts in Los Angeles County.

CDOL is a nationally recognized leader in distance and online learning and has been in operation since 1990. They designed and developed this Web site, and provide ongoing maintenance.

LAUSD is an acknowledged leader in youth suicide prevention in schools through its Youth Suicide Prevention Program (YSPP) established in 1986, and will provide the majority of the content for this site, including information related to suicide prevention interventions that will be helpful to individuals and administrators in developing training events. DMH, in collaboration with LACOE, will also pursue program development, networking, and resource leveraging.
