This Suicide Prevention Web site is a joint effort between the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH), the Los Angeles County Office of Education’s (LACOE) Center for Distance and Online Learning (CDOL), and the Los Angeles Unified School District’s (LAUSD) School Mental Health Services (SMHS). Personnel from these three public entities, DMH, LACOE/CDOL, and LAUSD/SMHS have formed a planning work group named the Suicide Prevention Collaborative for Schools (SPCS). The goal is to provide information and materials on suicide prevention to the 80 school districts in Los Angeles County.
CDOL is a nationally recognized leader in distance and online learning and has been in operation since 1990. They designed and developed this Web site, and will provide ongoing maintenance.
LAUSD is an acknowledged leader in youth suicide prevention in schools through its Youth Suicide Prevention Program (YSPP) established in 1986, and will provide the majority of the content for this site, including information related to suicide prevention interventions that will be helpful to individuals and administrators in developing training events. LAUSD will also provide protocols for crises response for suicide as well as other forms of crises that affect the school community. DMH, in collaboration with LACOE and LAUSD, will also pursue program development, networking, and resource leveraging.
