Sam Chan, Ph.D.

District Chief (retired)
Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health

This Suicide Prevention Web site is a joint effort between the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH) and the Los Angeles County Office of Education’s (LACOE) Center for Distance and Online Learning (CDOL.) The goal is to assist the more than 80 school districts, charter networks and private schools in Los Angeles County as they develop and implement comprehensive policies in suicide prevention, intervention and postvention.

In addition to this website, LACOE and DMH have partnered to provide local education agencies with a capacity-building project to improve suicide prevention and student resiliency. This project is called SPORT2, Suicide Prevention Ongoing Resiliency Training. It will help teachers, administrators, counselors, and other mental health staff to learn more about their critical role in preventing youth suicide and fostering resilience in their students.

CDOL is a nationally recognized leader in distance and online learning and has been in operation since 1990. CDOL designs and operates this website.
